How to Add Text to a PDF Online for Free (No Upload)
Need to put a name, a date or a note on a PDF? With the Text tool in PdfRuler you click where you want it, type, and save a copy with the text written into the page. It runs in your browser, so your file is never uploaded.
How to add text to a PDF
- Open your PDF at pdfruler.com/app (or press O).
- Click the T icon in the toolbar, or press T.
- Click the page where the text should start and type. Enter starts a new line.
- Press Esc, Ctrl + Enter or click elsewhere to finish.
- Press S to save a copy.
Size, color and moving text
While the tool is on, a small bar lets you pick the font size in points (the same unit as printed type, so 12 pt text prints at 12 pt) and one of six colors. Change them while typing and the text you are editing follows. Drag a text to move it, click it to edit, empty it or right-click it to delete it. Every step can be undone with Ctrl + Z; see undo, redo and history.
Place text exactly
Because PdfRuler has real rulers and guides, you can line the text up to a millimetre: pull a guide to the spot, then start typing there.
Good to know
- Text is saved as real, selectable text in the PDF (your choice of Helvetica, Helvetica bold, Times, Times italic or Courier). Characters outside the standard Latin set are saved as "?".
- Only the page you are on is saved, and text clears when you change page, like points do. Your original file is never changed.
Frequently asked questions

Yes. Use the five font buttons, the size buttons (in points) and the six color dots in the bar that appears while the Text tool is on.
